Honest answer
What percentage of Indian MS graduates actually get jobs abroad?
Numbers last checked: 2026-08-02
Short answer
Nobody publishes a figure we can verify, so we do not have one — and neither does anyone quoting you a percentage. Of the 14 programmes in our verified set, exactly 2 publish their own graduate salary data at programme level (Georgia Institute of Technology and New Jersey Institute of Technology). Every other salary figure we show is a role-and-country market band, clearly labelled as such. Placement percentages are even less available than salaries, and the ones circulating in marketing material are usually undefined.
What we tried and could not get
US College Scorecard programme-level earnings were not machine-accessible from our research environment. HESA Graduate Outcomes and DfE LEO publish provider-level salary only for UK-domiciled first degrees, not per-programme postgraduate taught. QILT's Australian per-university international postgraduate medians were published only in a spreadsheet format we could not retrieve. We list these failures rather than filling the gap with an estimate.
That is the honest state of the evidence. It also means any confident placement percentage you are shown deserves the question: measured how, over what window, counting whom?
How to read a placement claim
Three questions dismantle most of them. What counts as 'placed' — any employment, employment in the field, or employment in the destination country? What is the response rate, and were non-responders excluded? Does the figure cover international students specifically, or all graduates including domestic ones with automatic work rights?
A claim that survives all three is worth something. In our experience most do not survive the first, which is why our dataset marks Georgia Institute of Technology and New Jersey Institute of Technology as university-published-survey figures and everything else as market bands, rather than blending them into one confident-looking number.
